Scheming Schemes

I had the most perfect plan for dinner tonight while Bingley and Darcy were visiting. I worked so hard to get Jane and Mr. Bingley alone, for I even winked at my daughters, trying to allude to the fact that we should leave them in each other's presence. And look what happened! Jane and Mr. Bingley further confessed their love for each other, and will soon be getting married! Oh how lovely that is. ANOTHER DAUGHTER WILL BE MARRIED! Oh goodness, I cannot calm down!

  1. I appreciate your efforts mother, but next time, please let things progress more naturally. I shudder to think that Mr. Bingley proposed while feeling pressured from all of your hints. He is not stupid and must have at least felt some embarrassment from so obviously being pushed towards me. It is not that I don't appreciate you help. I just hope that Mr. Bingley and I may live more calmly from now on.

  2. I am sincerely happy at the engagement of your daughter, but I cannot help but feel appalled at the way you treated me. Clearly, you were only treating him with respect and courtesy because you expected he would fall again for your daughter, Jane. I assume that if, at the time, you knew I was in love with your Elizabeth, you would have treated me with respect and kindness. This is just another example of why I complained to Lizzy about her connections. That was the old me, however, and I have decided to live in a more open and gentle manner.

  3. I know that you mean well, Mother. However, do not try to force people together. I'm sure you and Dad were forced an look how well that turned out......
